Shawshank Redemption 15th Anniversary Reunion

Upper Sandusky, Ohio will be the site of a special three-day reunion weekend for participants in the Shawshank Redemption film, movie fans and the general public, according to the Progressor Times. The event will get under way on August 29.

The schedule for Saturday, August 30 includes continuous showings of the Shawshank Redemption at the Star Theater. Several reunion activities on August 30 will take place at the Stephan Lumber building, where some of the filming occurred. These activities include tours of the building, which was used for the prison woodworking shop; reenactments by costumed actors; and display of costumes and memorabilia from Shawshank Redemption.

Tours will also be offered at other locations that were used for the film, such as the Mansfield Reformatory, the Malabar Farm, and Wyandot County Courthouse.

Costumes and Props Galore Are Slated For Auction

The Celebrity News Service reports that “[m]ovie fanatics will have the opportunity to get their hands on iconic movie props, like the original T.I.E. Fighter miniature from ‘Star Wars: A New Hope,’ in a prop auction” slated for July 31 and August 1.

The event is being promoted as “the ultimate superhero costume and prop auction,” and is being conducted by movie memorabilia dealer Profiles in History.

Here are some of the props and costumes that will be auctioned:

In addition to the “Star Wars” T.I.E. Fighter, other props include a full-scale animatronic male Velociraptor from “Jurassic Park III,” a ‘Winkie’ spear from “The Wizard of Oz,” a hero prop shotgun from “Terminator 2: Judgment Day,” a ‘Jack Skellington’ filming miniature house from “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” and endless other items.

Costumes will also be auctioned. Ben Affleck’s complete “Daredevil” costume is expected to fetch between $50,000 to $70,000. Other costumes include Tobey Maguire’s ‘Spider-Man’ and Kirsten Dunst’s ‘Mary Jane’ costumes from “Spider-Man” and “Spider-Man 2,” the Grail Cup from “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” and more.

Memorabilia News: Neiman Marcus Exhibit Features Screen Legends

The Dallas Morning News reports that Hollywood legends are featured in a special Neiman Marcus exhibit which is being presented as part of the AFI Dallas International Film Festival:

Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Robert De Niro, Elizabeth Taylor – they’re all at the downtown Neiman Marcus, and not just them but many, many more of Hollywood’s most legendary and luminous stars.

OK, perhaps that’s a bit of a misstatement. “They” aren’t actually there; some of these stars, strictly speaking, have been dead for years, if not decades. But they are all gathered together in the exhibit “Through the Lens Clearly: Icons & Images From the Harry Ransom Center,” which is being presented by Neiman Marcus as part of AFI Dallas International Film Festival.

The stars are present in the form of costumes, photographs, posters, props and other time-warp totems that are on display throughout Neiman’s historic downtown store, a setting that serves to intensify the stepping-back-in-time sense evoked by the collection.
