Shawshank Redemption 15th Anniversary Reunion
Upper Sandusky, Ohio will be the site of a special three-day reunion weekend for participants in the Shawshank Redemption film, movie fans and the general public, according to the Progressor Times. The event will get under way on August 29.
The schedule for Saturday, August 30 includes continuous showings of the Shawshank Redemption at the Star Theater. Several reunion activities on August 30 will take place at the Stephan Lumber building, where some of the filming occurred. These activities include tours of the building, which was used for the prison woodworking shop; reenactments by costumed actors; and display of costumes and memorabilia from Shawshank Redemption.
Tours will also be offered at other locations that were used for the film, such as the Mansfield Reformatory, the Malabar Farm, and Wyandot County Courthouse.

Bollywood Art Goes to Gavel
From The Washington Post comes a fascinating report on Bollywood posters and paintings being sold at auction in Mumbai.
“Ninety percent of our movie memorabilia is lost, gone forever. We are a negligent nation when it comes to popular culture. It is the largest film industry in the world, but it is not considered worth preserving,” says the [auction house] owner, Neville Tuli, who also keeps a cultural archive. Tuli has about 300,000 objects of movie memory — posters, costumes, billboards, booklets and props. Two years ago, he began including them in his traditional art auctions.

Comic-Con - A Hub for Memorabilia and Merchandise
The 39th annual Comic-Con Convention is under way in San Diego, with more than 125,000 people expected to attend the four-day event, Reuters reports. The attendees are attracted there for a “veritable feast of the latest in comic-related books, movies, toys, games and memorabilia.”
Many attendees admit they come for the traditional Superman fan club soirees, rare memorabilia exhibits, and panel discussions on topics such as the “Klingon Lifestyle,” derived from the famous “Star Trek” TV series.
However “the Con,” as it is known among fans, has changed considerably since its inaugural meeting nearly four decades ago, when about 300 geeky fans milled around piles of musty comic books. Long catering mostly to men, many of whom dress as their favorite superheroes, the event has sought in recent years to attract more women and families.
Costumes and Props Galore Are Slated For Auction
The Celebrity News Service reports that “[m]ovie fanatics will have the opportunity to get their hands on iconic movie props, like the original T.I.E. Fighter miniature from ‘Star Wars: A New Hope,’ in a prop auction” slated for July 31 and August 1.
The event is being promoted as “the ultimate superhero costume and prop auction,” and is being conducted by movie memorabilia dealer Profiles in History.
Here are some of the props and costumes that will be auctioned:
In addition to the “Star Wars” T.I.E. Fighter, other props include a full-scale animatronic male Velociraptor from “Jurassic Park III,” a ‘Winkie’ spear from “The Wizard of Oz,” a hero prop shotgun from “Terminator 2: Judgment Day,” a ‘Jack Skellington’ filming miniature house from “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” and endless other items.
Costumes will also be auctioned. Ben Affleck’s complete “Daredevil” costume is expected to fetch between $50,000 to $70,000. Other costumes include Tobey Maguire’s ‘Spider-Man’ and Kirsten Dunst’s ‘Mary Jane’ costumes from “Spider-Man” and “Spider-Man 2,” the Grail Cup from “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” and more.

Window Card
Window cards were an advertising tool for use in locations other than the movie theaters. Typical sizes included the standard 14″X22″ size (vertical), as well as an 8″X14″ size, and a larger 22″X28″ size (vertical).
