Laurel and Hardy Film Collection

Sometimes it seems like we could all use a good laugh — and sometimes it seems like we could use a really good laugh! In that spirit, our “Movie of the Week” is actually a Laurel and Hardy Film Collection of eight films. This collection features both the collaboration of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, and Stan Laurel as a solo comedic actor. The eight works in the collection range from silent to sound, from black and white to color, and with a time range from 1918 to 1951.

Are they funny? Well, let’s just say that I started laughing before the film action even started — while reading the Foreword to Stan Laurel’s Dr. Pyckle And Mr. Pride (a parody, of course, of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde): “We squirm under the tumult of Good and Evil ever-warring within us, yet were Science to separate them, Bad would flourish. Crime run riot — even Saxophone players would be tolerated.”
